It is thought ancient people found fossils of long extinct creatures such as dinosaurs from millions of years ago and mammoths from thousands of years ago and created stories to explain these huge bones. Mammoths are thought to be the inspiration for cyclops as mammoths had a depression in their foreheads. Dinosaur bones perhaps are the inspiration for the titans in Greek mythology.
