NASA

NASA has counted 1,113,527 asteroids in the vastness of our solar system, all of which are leftovers from the formation of the solar system about 4.55 billion years ago. But, as Douglas Adams put it-“space is big, you just won’t believe how vastly hugely mind boggingly big it is.” So the distance between asteroids in an asteroid belt would be huge and not that difficult to fly through in a space ship. I think it’s safe to say C3PO was mistaken when he declared it a 3.720 to 1 chance of successfully navigating an asteroid field in The Empire Strikes Back.
