Interpreting Archaeology

I am a trained archaeologist, but archaeology is not at all what most people make it out to be. Yes, it’s about digging up cool stuff from the past, but that means absolutely nothing if you don’t interpret it with some kind of context. If you were to find an arrowhead and bring it to an archaeologist and ask them what it was, they would actually be pretty disappointed with you. Because once you’ve taken that arrowhead or any artifact out of the ground without recording everything that was around it, that arrowhead is meaningless. That’s what I mean about context, a single artifact only means something depending on everything that surrounds it.
