Ringing Rocks

This photo is from Ringing Rocks County Park in Pennsylvania and is home to a field of igneous rocks. These rocks are pretty rare on Earth and there’s actually only about a dozen places where they are found. These “ringing rocks” are called lithophonic rocks. Lithos in Greek means rock and phonic means sound. These rocks ring out so beautifully people have stolen them to bring them home, but here’s the thing, they won’t ring when they’re by themselves, they have to be around the other rocks.
